  • PARTIES: Halloween Weekend Roundup

The weekend started, of course, on Friday night, and the fact that Alber Elbaz didn’t exactly grow up with Halloween—“We don’t really have it France,” he admitted—does not in any way deter him from throwing a spectacular star-studded fete in honor of the holiday. The blowout, held in Lanvin’s new outpost on Madison Avenue, encompassed all three floors of the store where the stunning black-and-white floor was strewn with Mylar confetti; mirrored coffee tables were cluttered with half-drunk cocktails, and guests like Anne Hathaway, Vanessa von Bismarck (in her mother’s Courrèges coat), Janet Jackson, and Jacquelyn Jablonski. If the designer looked like the cheeriest Count Dracula this side of Transylvania, he had good reason: “It’s our first store in New York, and it’s not like we’re opening a new store every other day!”

Looking back, it was smart for Mr. Elbaz to claim Friday night because Saturday night was so packed—where should one start? Our suggestion was to head over to Alison Sarofim’s epic annual costume party on Bank Street that beckoned the likes of Shala Monroque, Olya Thompson, and Hope Atherton. Next stop was across the water at MoMA’s PS1 in Long Island City, where Visionaire tossed a candle-strewn fete packed wall-to-wall with models like Anouck Lepère, Daria Werbowy, Jac, Mirte Maas (dressed fully out of character as a nerd), and Jacquelyn Jablonksi. Back in Manhattan and headed far west, the top of The Standard Hotel was dubbed “Heaven and Hell” (the invitation asked revelers to “choose their fate”) and the tantalizing decision drew out Lauren Santo Domingo and her husband, Andrés, as well as Prabal Gurung and Genevieve Jones.

  • NOSTALGIA: Dressing Up With Vogue

With Halloween fast approaching, we decided to take a closer look at the whole idea of dressing up—and how better to do that than flipping through some of our favorite, fantastical fashion portfolios shot exclusively for Vogue magazine over the years? From Kirsten Dunst as Marie Antoinette to Karolina Kurkova as Marilyn Manson to Natalia Vodianova dressing up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland, we hope you find a little inspiration in these images—just don’t fall too far down the rabbit hole…
