  • Actress Carey Mulligan Photographed for the October 2010 Issue of Vogue
by Peter LindberghShe may have reeled off a list of Karl Lagerfeld’s qualities as she introduced him at last night’s CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards dinner, but Carey Mulligan also had something to shout about, even if she stayed absolutely quiet about it; Baz Luhrmann has cast her to play Daisy Buchanan in The Great Gatsby. Given Mulligan’s style, she’s likely to look— and turn in a performance—as iconic as Mia Farrow in the 1974 version.

There was something refreshing about the lack of a dress code this week. On one side, there were some seriously colorful coats and cocktail dresses, and on the other, there was the inventive (and sure to be spotted on a street near you) pairing of delicate, feminine sweaters with nearly everything from loose pants to floral skirts to short shorts.
